Leadership Opportunities Available Annually On the MSLHA Executive Council

Executive Council members are MSLHA members who volunteered (or were volunteered) to help out—and they have fun while getting the job done! Many enjoy the camaraderie so much that they run for more than one term or run for another office.

MSLHA Executive Council positions are available every year. Positions are filled by election during our business Meeting held at the Spring Conference.

All MSLHA members are eligible to run for office. Members interested in a position on the Executive Council may contact any member of the Council for more information or to request their name be placed on the ballot. A nomination committee is generally formed in the fall to seek members who would be interested in filling a position. Nominations from the floor [during our spring conference business meeting] will be entertained.

Elected officers serve 2 or 3-year staggered terms to avoid complete turnovers in Executive Council members. The President-Elect will serve one year in that capacity, followed by a year as President, and then a year as Immediate Past-President. All other officers shall serve 2-year terms of office except the Continuing Education committee members who shall serve staggered three-year terms. All officers are eligible for reelection and may succeed themselves.

The schedule for elections is as follows;

Elected officers assume office July 1 with orientation provided by the Executive Council.

The Executive Council convenes 6 to 8 times a year. When possible, meetings are accomplished via teleconference.

Elected officers on the Executive Committee and Committee Chairs attend MSLHA conferences with waived conference fees.

In addition to the Executive Council Positions mentioned above, MSLHA offers many opportunities to participate in leadership roles on the Council exist including Special Interest Committee Chairs (i.e. School Practice, Legislative Action and Clinical Services Committees, Communications, and Audiology). Committee Chairs are always looking for committee members and welcome member participation.

If you’re looking for experience in a leadership role (or just want to help out)—the Executive Council has opportunities for you! Whether you’re interested in professional growth, resume enhancement, personal interest, or networking—who better to work with than professionals in the Speech-Language-Hearing arena?
